Alternate Nostril Breathing
A reflection from the Mind Sanctuary phone app.
Alternate nostril breathing is a traditional pranayama practice that directs attention to the breath.
How to practice: 1. Sit upright in a comfortable position 2. Raise your right hand to your face 3. Close your right nostril with your right thumb 4. Inhale through your left nostril for 4 counts 5. Close your left nostril with your fingers, release your thumb 6. Exhale through your right nostril for 4 counts 7. Inhale through your right nostril for 4 counts 8. Alternate sides, continuing for 5-10 rounds
Let the rhythm stay comfortable and unforced. Ordinary breathing is always an option.
Practice when you feel scattered or overwhelmed.
