Arriving Somewhere Wanted
An imagined scene from Mind Sanctuary.
You are here. You are actually here.
The thought loops. Because it has not fully landed yet. You have imagined this arrival many times. In the abstract. In the planning. In the idle moments when you pictured what it would look like. And now you are standing in it, and the reality is so specific, so detailed, so different from the imagination, that it takes a moment to reconcile the two.
It is real. It exists outside your mind. And you got here.
The journey here was long. The years of it being a place on a list were long. The decision to actually go, after all the not-going, was its own small courage. And now the street or the view or the coast or the city is in front of you, exactly as it has always been, not knowing it was on your list, not knowing you were coming, just being itself, in the ordinary way that places do when they are not visited by people who have needed them for years.
The smell arrives before everything else. It always does. A smell you have never smelled before, because smells cannot be imagined. Every place has its own, specific, unrepeatable smell. This one is unique to here. To this latitude, this soil, this air, this history. You will remember it. When you think of this place in twenty years, the smell will be the first thing.
Take a photograph. But then put the phone away. Because right now you need to not be mediating this through a screen. You need to look. Not at the frame you are composing. At the thing itself. Its colours and proportions and the specific quality of the light here at this hour.
Something loosens. A tension you did not know you were carrying. The holding-pattern feeling of something wanted but not yet done. It releases. Because you did it. The thing you said you would do, the place you said you would go, is now behind you and in front of you simultaneously. You arrived. That is done. That is real.
Walk forward. Into the place. Let it receive you as all places receive all visitors, without ceremony, without expectation. You are welcome here not because you earned it but because you showed up. Showing up is the only requirement.
At some point today, you will sit somewhere in this place and think, I am sitting here. In this specific place. The thought will be quiet and complete and it will fill you in a way that planned happiness rarely does.
You do not need to see everything. You do not need to maximize this. Just be here. Let the place be itself. Let yourself be here while it is.
This is what it feels like when imagination becomes experience. When the map becomes the territory. When the dream lands and you discover that reality, with all its specifics and smells and imperfections, is better.
You are here.
