Carry Something Different
An imagined scene from Mind Sanctuary.
Yesterday had a weight to it.
Maybe you can still feel it. Somewhere in your shoulders. Somewhere in the vague heaviness behind your eyes. You went to bed carrying something, and sleep did not quite take it from you. It is still here. Familiar. Like a bag you forgot to put down.
But here is the thing about mornings.
They are doors. Not continuations. You do not have to carry yesterday into today. That is a choice. And most of us make it without realising we are making it at all. We wake up and we pick up exactly where we left off. Same mood. Same tension. Same inner dialogue running in the background like software we never chose to install.
What if today you chose differently?
Not in a big, dramatic way. Not a resolution or a reinvention. Just... a small, quiet decision, made here, in the softness of the morning, before anyone asks anything of you.
Close your eyes for a moment.
Think about yesterday. Not the details. Just the feeling of it. Was it heavy? Was it scattered? Was it frustrating? Was it just... flat? Do not judge it. Just acknowledge it. That is what it was.
Now let it go.
Not forever. You can think about it later if you need to. But right now, in this moment, you are setting it down. Like placing a stone at the side of a road. It does not disappear. You just stop carrying it.
Good.
Now. What do you want today to feel like?
Think about this carefully. Not what you want to get done. What you want to feel while doing it.
Calm, maybe. Even when things get busy. That steady centre that does not tip over just because someone is stressed around you.
Or maybe lightness. The ability to laugh at the small stuff. To not take every minor setback personally. To move through your day with a little more air in your step.
Or maybe courage. Today might ask something uncomfortable of you. A conversation. A decision. A boundary. And you want to meet it without shrinking.
Whatever the word is... say it to yourself now. Silently. Like a promise only you can hear.
This is your intention. Not a demand. Not pressure. Just a direction. A compass heading. If you drift from it today, that is fine. You will notice, and you will gently come back. That is how it works.
Now take a breath. Deep. Fill the lungs. Feel the ribcage expand.
And as you breathe out, imagine that word, that intention, settling into your body the way warmth settles into your hands when you hold a hot cup.
It is part of you now. Lightly. Quietly. Present.
When you open your eyes, the day will be waiting. It will have its plans, its demands, its surprises. But underneath all of that, you will have this. A thread of something you chose.
That changes things. More than you think.
Go gently.
