Lighthouse Between Worlds

An imagined scene from Mind Sanctuary.

The lighthouse stands where nothing else can.

Not on a coast. Not on a cliff. On the boundary between two worlds. Behind it, the world you know. Trees, earth, sky, weather. In front of it, the other world. A place you can see but not describe. Because the colours are not colours you have names for. The shapes are not shapes that follow rules you understand. It is beautiful. And it is entirely elsewhere.

The lighthouse separates them. Marks the border. Keeps it clear.

You are inside, climbing the spiral staircase. The walls are thick stone, whitewashed, cool to the touch. Each step is worn in the centre from centuries of keepers climbing to tend the light. Your hand trails the iron railing and its coldness grounds you. Solid. Real. A thing made of this world.

Through the narrow windows, you catch glimpses of both sides. On the left, familiar. A meadow, a forest in the distance, clouds moving at a normal speed. On the right, unfamiliar. A sky that has too many stars for daytime. Ground that curves upward at the edges like the inside of a bowl. Creatures that move in ways your eyes have never tracked before. Neither threatening nor familiar. Just different.

The light at the top is not electric. Not fire. It is something between. A sphere of concentrated radiance that rotates slowly, sending a beam across both worlds simultaneously. Into the darkness of the familiar ocean. Into whatever lies beyond the boundary in the other direction. Keeping both sides safe. Guiding travelers in both worlds away from the rocks they cannot see.

The keeper's room is just below the light. Small. Round. A bed, a desk, a telescope, a logbook. The log book is open. Entries written in different hands, different eras, different languages. Each one recording the same essential information. The light is burning. The boundary holds. Nothing has crossed that should not cross.

You sit at the desk. Through the window facing the other world, you watch. Something enormous moves in the far distance. Slow and deliberate, like a cloud that has decided to walk. It is too far away to see clearly, which is probably for the best. But it is not frightening. It is magnificent. A reminder that the world you live in is one of many, and the others are not lesser. Just unknown.

The beam rotates. It sweeps across your face momentarily, warm, and for one second you see both worlds with equal clarity. The meadow and the strange sky. The ordinary and the extraordinary. Side by side. Separated by nothing more than a lighthouse and the willingness to look.

This is your post, for now. Not forever. Just for this moment. To sit at the boundary and keep the light burning. Not because the worlds are dangerous to each other. But because boundaries deserve attention. Deserve someone who sits at the edge and says, I see both sides. And both are real.

The light turns. The boundary holds. You are exactly where you need to be.
