Mindful Eating

A reflection from the Mind Sanctuary phone app.

We eat three or more times a day, yet rarely do we truly taste our food. Mindful eating transforms a routine act into a meditation.

Try this with a single raisin or piece of fruit: Hold it in your hand. Notice its weight, texture, and color. Feel its surface with your fingertips.

Bring it to your nose. Smell it. Notice how your mouth responds. Place it on your tongue without biting. Feel its texture. Notice any flavors.

Now bite slowly. Notice the burst of flavor. Chew deliberately. Feel the food change consistency. Notice the impulse to swallow before you have fully chewed.

This practice reveals how much of life we miss by rushing. When we slow down enough to fully experience even a single bite, we discover richness we never knew was there.
