Muscles Releasing One By One

An imagined scene from Mind Sanctuary.

Lie down somewhere comfortable. The bed. The couch. The floor with a blanket underneath you. Let your whole body be supported. Nothing holding itself up. Nothing working.

You moved today. Hard. Your muscles know it. They are humming with that specific post-effort awareness, warm and tight and full of something that needs releasing.

So let us release it. Slowly. Muscle by muscle. Starting with the places you worked hardest.

Start with your feet. The soles. The arches. The tiny muscles between the toes that absorbed every step, every jump, every push. They are still gripping, still holding tension from the effort. Let them soften. Imagine them sinking into the surface beneath you. Heavy. Released. Done for the day.

Now your calves. These muscles were springs. Coiled and released, over and over. They are warm. Maybe slightly sore. Bring your attention to them and simply notice. The left calf. The right calf. And as you notice, let them release. Not forced. Just... permission. You are allowed to let go now. The effort is over.

Your thighs. The big muscles. The quadriceps on the front, the hamstrings on the back. These are the powerhouse muscles, the ones that carried you, propelled you, held you. They have been working hard and they are holding the memory of that work in the form of tension. Acknowledge them. Thank them, if that does not feel strange. And let the tension drain out, like warm water flowing downhill.

Your hips and glutes. Deep muscles. The ones that stabilise everything else. They are often forgotten, but they do enormous work. Feel them now. Heavy. Warm. Pressed against whatever you are lying on. Let them spread. Let the tightness dissolve.

Your core. The abdomen. The obliques along your sides. The deep muscles near the spine. All of them were engaged, bracing, supporting, whether you noticed or not. Let the brace release. Feel your belly soften. Feel the muscles around your spine loosen their grip. You are lying down. Gravity has you. Your core does not need to hold you together right now.

Your lower back. This is where effort accumulates in the body. A common holding place for tension. Bring warmth to it with your attention. Imagine the muscles there softening, lengthening, letting go. If there is discomfort, do not push against it. Just breathe into the area. Slowly. Each exhale releasing a fraction more.

Your shoulders. The traps. The muscles that connect your neck to your shoulders to your upper back. They are probably the tightest part of your body right now. Feel how high they are, even lying down. Now let them drop. Away from your ears. Into the surface beneath you. Two separate acts of surrender.

Your arms. Your biceps. Your forearms. Your hands. Let the fingers uncurl. Let the palms face up. Let the arms be heavy and still.

Your neck. That delicate column holding everything up all day. It is not holding anything right now. Let it be soft. Let the head rest fully, the full weight of your skull given to the pillow or the floor.

Your jaw. Unclench it. Let the mouth fall slightly open. The face. Smooth the forehead. Release the muscles around the eyes.

Now... feel the whole body. All of it. Released. Heavy. Warm. A body that was used today and is now recovering. Every cell repairing. Every muscle rebuilding. Stronger than it was this morning, because of what you put it through.

This stillness is not wasted time. This is where the work becomes real.

Rest.
