Non-Judgment Practice

A reflection from the Mind Sanctuary phone app.

Our minds are judgment machines. We label experiences as good or bad, pleasant or unpleasant, right or wrong, hundreds of times each day. Meditation teaches us to see without judging.

Non-judgment does not mean we stop having opinions. It means we notice our judgments without adding another layer of judgment on top. We observe "There's a judgment" rather than "I shouldn't be judging."

In meditation, when your mind wanders, notice the impulse to criticize yourself. Instead of "I'm terrible at this," try "My mind wandered. That is what minds do."

This gentle awareness transforms your practice, your relationships, and your inner dialogue. When we stop judging ourselves, we naturally become more accepting of others too.

Today, count how many judgments arise in five minutes of meditation. Don't try to stop them. Just count.
