Sending Warmth To Someone Far Away
An imagined scene from Mind Sanctuary.
Think of someone.
Not someone here. Someone far away. Someone you have not spoken to in a while, or someone you saw yesterday but will not see tonight. Someone who, right now, wherever they are, has no idea that you are thinking of them.
Hold them in your mind. Their face. Their voice. The way they laugh, or the way they tilt their head when they are listening. A small, specific detail that makes them them.
Now imagine them, wherever they are right now. Maybe at work. Maybe at home. Maybe driving. Maybe sitting alone with something heavy. You do not know what their day has been like. You do not know what is running through their mind at this moment. But they are out there. Living. Breathing. Carrying whatever they are carrying.
And you are going to send them something.
Not a message. Not a text. Something quieter than that. Something older than phones. A feeling. Warmth. The kind that moves through distance the way light does. Without needing a medium. Without needing to be seen to exist.
Close your eyes if they are not already closed.
Take a slow breath in. And as you breathe in, think the words: may you be at peace.
Breathe out slowly. Let the words leave you like a signal sent without wires.
Breathe in again. May you be safe.
Breathe out.
Breathe in. May you be free from suffering.
Breathe out. May you know that you are loved.
This is not magic. This is not prayer, unless you want it to be. It is simply the act of directing your attention and your compassion toward another person. And that act, small as it seems, changes something. Not in them, necessarily. In you. Your heart opens a fraction wider. Your perspective shifts from inward to outward. The self-focus that drives so much of our anxiety softens, replaced by something warmer.
Think of another person now. Someone different. Maybe someone you are worried about. Maybe someone you have not checked in with. Maybe someone who gave you something beautiful without knowing it. A kind word. A gesture. A shared moment that stayed with you longer than they realise.
Send them the same warmth. May you be well. May your day hold something good. May you feel, even for a moment, that you matter to someone.
And now, one more. This time, someone you find difficult. Not your worst enemy. Just someone who frustrates you. Someone you disagree with. Someone whose behaviour you do not understand.
This is harder. But try. Because they are also human. Also carrying something. Also waking up each day and doing their best with whatever tools they have.
May you find peace. May you find your way. Even if I do not understand your path.
Take a breath. Feel what just happened in your chest. A widening. An opening. A small act of generosity that cost you nothing and gave you something you cannot buy.
Connection. Not through a screen. Through the heart. The oldest technology there is.
