Sitting With What Is Missing
An imagined scene from Mind Sanctuary.
There is something missing.
You know what it is. You do not need me to name it. It lives in the shape of your day now, in the spaces where something or someone used to be. A chair. A voice. A routine. A name you still almost call out before catching yourself.
You are here. And that is enough.
I am not going to tell you it gets easier. I am not going to tell you to be strong, or to look for silver linings, or that everything happens for a reason. You have probably heard all of that. And none of it reaches the place where this actually lives.
What I am going to do is sit here with you. That is it. No advice. No timeline. Just company.
Breathe in whatever way feels right. If deep breaths feel like too much right now, shallow ones are fine. If your breath catches, let it. There is nothing to perform here.
Grief is not a problem to be solved. It is not a phase to move through and leave behind. It is the shape that love takes when the thing it was attached to is no longer within reach. It is proof of something real. Something that mattered.
So let it be here.
Maybe it feels like heaviness in your chest. A weight that sits there, sometimes quietly, sometimes so loud you cannot hear anything else. That weight is not wrong. It is not a sign that you are failing. It is the honest response of a heart that loved something deeply.
Maybe it shows up as anger. At the situation. At the unfairness. At the world that keeps moving when yours has stopped. Anger is part of this. You are allowed it.
Maybe it is the numbness. The fog that wraps around everything so that the days blend together and you cannot quite feel anything fully. That fog is protection. Your mind giving itself time to absorb what happened in doses small enough to bear.
Whatever it is for you today, it is valid. This minute. This hour. Tomorrow it will be something else. Grief is not linear. It circles. It surprises you in the cereal aisle. It disappears for an afternoon and then floods back at a song, a smell, a time of day.
None of that is failure. All of it is human.
You do not have to do anything with this feeling right now. You do not have to transform it, understand it, or let it go. You just have to survive it. And you are. Breath by breath. Moment by moment. You are still here.
That is remarkable. Even if it does not feel like it.
If you need to cry, cry. If you need to sit in silence, sit. If you need to stare at the wall for an hour, the wall is not going anywhere.
You are not alone in this room. Whatever you are carrying, you carried it here, and I see it. It is heavy. It is real.
And so are you.
Stay as long as you need.
