The Colour Blue As Place
An imagined scene from Mind Sanctuary.
Imagine blue not as a colour but as a space you can enter.
This particular blue belongs to the hour before full dark, when the sky is too light to be night and too deep to be day, the blue that photographers call the magic hour blue, the blue that painters have spent careers trying to reproduce and never quite gotten because it is not a fixed colour. It breathes. It shifts.
Step into it. The blue receives you at the temperature of your skin. Not cold. Not warm. Neutral in the way that truly deep water is neutral: present, containing, without preference about what it holds.
The blue extends in every direction. Not uniformly. The blue deepens at the centre, where the sky is still carrying the memory of light. It softens at the edges, becoming almost violet where it meets the dark. Look directly into it and you are looking into depth. The blue has no back wall. The blue continues.
The sound inside a blue space is different from the sound inside any other colour. The sound is reduced. Not silence exactly. A muting of frequencies. The high and sharp things absorbed into the blue, only the lower and softer remaining. The sound of this blue is the sound of breathing slowed, the sound of distance, the sound of a voice speaking from across water.
The smell of blue. This is the hardest one and the most real. The smell of the sky at dusk. The smell of clean water that has been standing in a glass for long enough to absorb the air. The smell just before rain when the ozone shifts and something electrical prepares. All of these are blue.
Let the blue come in through the skin. blue is the colour of calm in every physiology that has been measured. It lowers the heart rate. It opens the breath. It tells the nervous system that nothing here requires immediate response.
Float in the blue without effort. The blue does not require swimming. The blue does not require remaining in any particular orientation. The blue is supportive as a fact. You are simply here, in this, held by a colour that was always bigger than the sky that carries it.
Let specific blues arrive. The blue of a childhood room. The blue of water caught in a deep pool. The blue of the mountains before you are close enough to see their green. The blue of the veins in your own wrist, the body carrying its blue quietly inside.
All of these blues are one blue. The blue that is not a surface colour but a depth colour. The colour that begins where the visible electromagnetic spectrum hands off to the unknown.
Rest in the blue. Let it adjust the frequency of your thoughts.
Breathe in blue. Breathe out whatever colour the tension has been.
