Your Body Is Doing Something Extraordinary
An imagined scene from Mind Sanctuary.
Your body is tired. You know that. You feel it in your bones, in your eyes, in the way your muscles ache in places you did not know could ache. But there is something else happening underneath the tiredness that deserves a moment.
Something extraordinary.
Your body grew a person. Or held a person. Or is currently sustaining a person through the sheer force of showing up, day after day, night after night, running on less sleep than it has ever had to work with.
Think about that for a second.
Your arms know exactly how to hold this child. Not because you were trained. Because something in your body figured it out. The angle. The pressure. The sway. When they cry and you pick them up and they settle against your chest... that is your heartbeat doing medicine.
Your voice has changed without you noticing. It has found a register, lower, softer, that exists only for this child. A frequency that says safe. Says here. Says I am not going anywhere. You did not learn that. It just arrived.
Your senses have sharpened. You hear breathing from another room. You notice the smallest shift in temperature, in mood, in the quality of a cry. Your body has turned itself into a monitoring system that never fully switches off. Exhausting? Yes. But also... remarkable.
And your hands. Look at them for a second. These hands have done everything today. Held a bottle. Changed a nappy. Rocked a restless body to sleep. Caught something falling. Prepared food you barely ate yourself. Washed something. Wiped something. Held a tiny hand that curled around your finger like it was the most important thing in the world.
Because it was.
The world sees tired. You see tired when you look in the mirror. And you are tired. But underneath the dull skin and the circles under your eyes and the hair you have not thought about in days... underneath all of that, there is a body performing an act of sustained love that requires every system it has.
Your nervous system, recalibrating itself around someone else's needs. Your hormones, doing things science is still trying to fully understand. Your muscles, your reflexes, your instincts, all mobilised for one purpose. To keep this small life going.
You are not falling apart. You are being used. Completely. For something that matters more than anything.
So tonight, or whenever this finds you... be kind to this body. It has earned something more than criticism. More than comparison. More than the standards you held yourself to before this chapter began.
Rest it. Feed it. Thank it. Not with grand gestures. Just with this breath. This moment of stillness. This quiet acknowledgement.
Your body is doing something extraordinary. Even now. Even tired. Even this.
